Cristiano Ronaldo was named FIFA World Footballer of the Year for 2008 at the FIFA Gala in Zurich.Ronaldo, who's also bearer of the esteemed award Ballon d'Or for the European Footballer of the Year, beat rivals like Kaka (Brazil 2007 winner), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Fernando Torres (Spain) and Xavi (Spain).After Ronaldo received FIFA World Footballer award from Pele at the FIFA Gala in Zurich he stated:"It's an overwhelming moment in my career and I'd like to dedicate this award to my family, friends and colleagues,"

Cristiano Ronaldo escaped uninjured yesterday after crashing his Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.During his way to training, Ronaldo's car hit a roadside barrier inside a tunnel and bounded off a wall.A witness stated Cristiano walked away from the wreck with no serious injurys. “It is amazing he got out of it without a scratch,”
Edwin van der Sar Manchester United's goalie, was following in his Bentley at the time of the wreck but wasn't involved with the collision.

Cristiano Ronaldo won another award, this time Ballon d'Or award, which is given by the magazine France Football.Cristiano was called as Kaka's successor on Tuesday morning and is the first Portuguese after Luis Figo(2000) to win the desirable Ballon d'Or award.
On Sunday Cristiano was introduced with the Ballon d'Or award(golden ball) on a TV ceremonial in Paris and admitted it embodied a dream come true.
